  VLPSNHS SCHOOL PROFILE
Vicente L. Pimentel Sr. National High School (VLPSNHS) is a public Junior High School offering K-to-12 curriculum, located at Barangay Quezon, Tandag City. It is more or less 6 kilometers away from Tandag City proper and less than 3 kilometers from the crossing highway. The road is accessible to any public utility vehicle. The school has an area of 1 hectare or equivalent of 10,000 square meters and situated near the rice field.
The VLPSNHS learning environment is a naturally child friendly; it is a typical school in the rural peaceful countryside manned with a male school principal, 13 nationally funded permanent teachers (4 male teachers and 9 female teachers) and a Job order school watchman. The school is not an Implementing Unit (IU) in terms of school operation. The school is dependent on the financial staff of the division office.
From the data collected, the enrolment of VLPSNHS has an increasing trend yearly of at least 12%. But it came out with a big challenge that the school did not meet the division target and far below of 75% Mean Percentage Score (MPS) and high incidence of frustration level in Oral Reading Proficiency Test (ORPT). Due to these, the two very high priorities resulted in Prioritization Rubric of the Priority Improvement Area (PIA) which are all about increase achievement level and zero frustration level. In the recent school year result of the ORPT Post Test on January 2019 of the 76 actually tested, 33 students or 43% only could comprehend while 35 students or 46% are instructional and 8 students or 11% are still in frustration level in English which is alarming. Thus this is found out by the School Planning Team (SPT) to be High Priority and needs an immediate solution. Project READER (Reading Exercises Activity Develop Easy Routine) rigid reading activities focus on all students is to be activated by a Language Project Team which aims overcome reading difficulties.
Another frustrating result is the numeracy skills of the students in Grade 7 during their Pre-Test in the so called Math Readiness Test with 30.5% far from the 75% target. Thus, Project SMILE (Sustainable Materials for Interventions and Learning Enhancement) is to be implemented by a Math Project Team focus on preparation of instructional materials and eventually utilized on their remedial classes.
Another attributes which caused the low performances and also resulted to the high Retention Rate of the students is the inadequacy or lack of Instructional Materials of the school. That is why another High Priority Improvement Area identified by SPT is the acquisition of additional ICT based and PRINTS based Instructional Materials for teachers and students. Currently, the school lacks computer sets and facility. Project AIM-ICT (Acquisition of Instructional Materials - ICT based) is structured to supplement teaching–learning processes. While waiting for the delivery of the Computer sets the team is looking for donor to acquire LCD projectors or bigger TV sets.
On quality. The Mean Percentage Scores (MPS) of the students over the past three school years were: SY 2016-2017 is 51.52%, SY 2017-2018 is 56.41% while the MPS for the current School Year within the 3 grading periods is 57.58%. Although the trend is increasing but it is too far from the Division and the National target of 75%. This entails there is a need for enrichment classes and programs especially in Math, Science and MAPEH because these are placed consistently on lower portion of the graph. Thus, Project CAUSE (Counter-Active Approach in Upholding Skills Enhancement) for this purpose.
With the 76% attendance in a PTA meetings and GPTA Assemblies, it implies with a good rapport between the administration and the parents. To maintain and eventually improved with this better relation and continuous support of the stakeholders, Project REWARD (Recognizing Everyone’s Worth thru Raffle Draw) is sough as a relief for those parents whose attendance in school activities is not a priority. This project will encourage parents to attend any call-up in hope to be one of the lucky winners. This is a flagship project of the GPTA to be led by the GPTA President.
The school has maintained its Gulayan sa Paaralan Program (GPP), for many time VLPSNHS-GPP is the only secondary school chosen by the Department of Agriculture in Region XIII as Regional finalist. The faculty is planning to enhance the GPP as it is a potential Income Generating Project (IGP), and also an advocacy to our teachers, parents, students and the community on the importance of gardening and eventually will emerged as regional winner. This is collaborative project of the Teachers, Students and the GPTA spearheaded by the GPP Coordinator.
There are still areas that need to be addressed, such as; lack of classrooms, rehabilitation and construction of additional comfort rooms, rehabilitation of stage, construction of additional learning shed, improvement of makeshift classroom, construction of MRF, Construction of concrete school perimeter fence, Acquisition of Reference books/e-books, Acquisition of teachers tables and chairs, Book Shelf, Cabinet, armchair and monoblock chairs. There are also needs of equipment such as; TLE (cooking and Carpentry tools), Sports, Health, GPP, DLC and CCTV Camera. The school is working for a big project, the Acquisition of Road Right of Way, Titling and multipurpose covered court.
In the area of teachers’ development, the school implemented the Learning Action Cell (LAC) scheduled once a month, this should be sustained. For other training and seminars, the school is dependent on call-ups by the division office as well as by the regional office. As of this school year, numbers of teachers are earning units leading to master’s degree.
